8174 32 bit to 9204 64 big 2004-04-01 - By DENNIS WILLIAMS

My theory as a DBA is to perform tasks in a manner that is least likely
to cause bad consequences. Is there any way export/import would work for
you? I have a much warmer feeling about using that to relocate my important
data. Just create a new 9i database, check it out, make sure it is ready to
go, practice the export/import, then perform the cutover. Much less to go
wrong.

Subject: 8174 32 bit to 9204 64 big
Hi All,
OS: Solaris.
Earlier we used to perform database migration/upgradation as below: (32 bit
8i to 64 bit 9i)
Install 8174 (64 bit) software
Convert the db from 32 bit to 64 (8174)
migrate the db from 8174 (64 bit) to 9204 (64 bit).
All the above was done manually.
Now we want to do the above migration using db upgrade assistant. We are
planning not to have the intermediate 8174 (64bit) software.
Is it possible to upgrade a database from 8.1.7.4 (32-bit) to 9.2.0.4
(64-bit) using dbassistant
Thanks in advance,
Srinivas
